How is Glass Produced?

The Journey of Glass from Raw Material to Final Product

Glass is an aesthetic and functional material that is present in almost every aspect of our daily lives. So how is this transparent and durable product produced? Here is the process of glass leaving the factory and entering our lives:

1. Raw Materials: The Foundation Stones of Glass

The main raw materials used in glass production are silica (quartz sand), soda (sodium carbonate), limestone and recycled glass cullet. These raw materials are mixed in certain proportions.

2. Melting: Liquid Glass from Sand

The mixture is melted at approximately 1500°C to obtain homogeneous liquid glass. These furnaces usually operate for 24 hours.

3. Shaping

Molten glass is smoothed on the surface by the float method in flat glass production. Alternatively, blowing, pressing or rolling methods can be used.

4. Cooling (Annealing)

The liquid glass is slowly cooled in the annealing tunnel. This process is necessary to eliminate internal stresses.

5. Kesim ve İşleme

After the glass becomes a plate, it is cut to the desired dimensions with automatic machines. If necessary, processes such as drilling, edge grinding or tempering are performed.

6. Quality Control and Packaging

Finally, the glass products are subjected to quality control and placed on pallets to prepare for shipment.

Glass production is a multi-stage process that requires attention and technology. Its natural structure and recyclability make it indispensable in the modern world.
